These lovely areas can be found along Beach Avenue from the breakwater at the mouth of the Kennebunk River to Lord’s Point for one and a half miles. If you’re interested in combining exercise with people watching, sidewalks extend the whole way. At the northern end, Gooch’s Beach, measured at 3346 feet long, is the largest stretch of talcum powder sand and waves.
A busy beach, Gooch’s has room for tourists, castle builders, body surfers, sun seekers and swimmers. Gooch’s Beach is the place to go when the weather worsens and the surf gets too rough for swimmers, but is ideal for intrepid surfers.
Tucked in a sheltered cove at the southern end is Mother’s Beach. It’s a beautiful, sanded area, which is the smallest of the Kennebunk Beaches at 750 feet. With a popular playground and gentle waves, it is a beloved choice for families with young children.
Out of the way and quiet, with a limited number of parking spaces and facilities to keep the crowds down, this beach is a favorite among nature lovers looking for a quiet shoreline stroll. During your visit, be sure to walk down Parson’s Way, a path that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, to Walker’s Point, former President George H.W. Bush’s summer home.
