With so many attractions and things to do in our delightful seaside village, Kennebunkport is the perfect location to spend some quality time on the scenic Maine Coast — whether you’re visiting for your annual family vacation, a romantic getaway, extended holiday weekend or just sneaking off for a mid-week escape.

Here, you can explore our pristine beaches, stroll through the Kennebunkport Village and Dock Square, dine al fresco or browse for antiques. You may want to try a spa treatment at The Breakwater Spa, one of Kennebunkport’s leading luxury spas.

Below are just a few of the many attractions and things to do here in Kennebunkport. Or you can simply relax and take in the views of the Kennebunk River from your room or patio at The Yachtsman Lodge & Marina.

Dock Square Shopping

If you are looking for a little retail therapy, then Dock Square is the place to go. Located in the heart of the Kennebunkport Village Marketplace, this charming waterfront shopping area offers a multitude of fine shops and art galleries to browse.

See the finest handmade jewelry by local craftsmen, poke around the bookshops or capture the spirit of times past with traditional furniture and accessories, including wrought iron, pottery, prints, lamps and rag rugs. There are locally made toys for the little ones and hand stitched quilts can be a perfect gift or reminder of your visit to Kennebunkport.

In addition, plenty of cafés and restaurants are in the vicinity, where you can sit back, relax over your latte or peppermint tea and just watch the world go by.

Shopping enthusiasts will also want to spend time at the discount shops in Freeport, home to world-famous L.L.Bean and to numerous retail outlets all less than an hour from Kennebunkport.

Fitness

If you appreciate the finer things in life, you belong at The Breakwater fitness facility. Whether guest or resident, this is the place to work out in Kennebunkport. The Breakwater offers more than just a comprehensively equipped fitness facility, featuring the latest in treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes and strength training machines. The environment boasts style all the way, but in an intimate and highly personal manner. No loud instructors, booming music or crowds — just you, and your fitness regimen.

While you are pounding the treadmill, pushing through that last hill or cooling down, absorb inspiring views of the magnificent, Kennebunkport, Maine coastline and Atlantic Ocean beyond.

The Breakwater Inn & Spa fitness facility is open every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with slightly shorter hours during the winter.

Kennebunk Area Beaches

These lovely areas can be found along Beach Avenue from the breakwater at the mouth of the Kennebunk River to Lord’s Point for one and a half miles. If you’re interested in combining exercise with people watching, sidewalks extend the whole way. At the northern end, Gooch’s Beach, measured at 3346 feet long, is the largest stretch of talcum powder sand and waves.

Gooch’s Beach

A busy beach, Gooch’s has room for tourists, castle builders, body surfers, sun seekers and swimmers. Gooch’s Beach is the place to go when the weather worsens and the surf gets too rough for swimmers, but is ideal for intrepid surfers.

Mother’s Beach

Tucked in a sheltered cove at the southern end is Mother’s Beach. It’s a beautiful, sanded area, which is the smallest of the Kennebunk Beaches at 750 feet. With a popular playground and gentle waves, it is a beloved choice for families with young children.

Parson’s Beach

Out of the way and quiet, with a limited number of parking spaces and facilities to keep the crowds down, this beach is a favorite among nature lovers looking for a quiet shoreline stroll. During your visit, be sure to walk down Parson’s Way, a path that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, to Walker’s Point, former President George H.W. Bush’s summer home.
